You have learned the mongolian style of archery. It is most effective when mounted.

Mongolian Draw: You place the arrow outside the bow (right side) instead of the usual way. You put your thumb under and wrap other finger around. This keeps the arrow in place, no matter which direction you turn your bow. A thumb ring is often used to avoid injuring your thumb.
