Tanuki, or rather, Bake-danuki (化け狸), are a kind of yōkai commonly associated with the Japanese raccoon dog or tanuki.
Creature Type: Humanoid
Size: Medium (about 4–7 feet tall) or Small (about 2–4 feet tall), chosen when you select this species
Speed: 30 feet
Some claim Bake-danuki can shapeshift into other things or people, and can possess human beings. This isn't strictly true; normally tanuki don't have such powers, but they can gain them through certain character classes.
Some, but not all, male tanuki have a large scrotum. Still, it's never as large as it could be flung over their backs.
As a tanuki, you have these special traits.
Drumming. You can drum on your large scrotum or on your belly, making a "pom-poko" or "ponpon" sounds. Drumming can be used as a simple language; you can drum messages to other tanuki in the area. Non-tanuki rarely learn this language, but it is possible. Depending on the weather and other noise in the area, tanuki drumming can be heard from 1 to 5 miles away.
