Austrech

The austrech is a vicious, flightless bird, found in the warm South running down wild goats, feral horses and unfortunate travelers. It hunts by leaping upon its prey and tearing at them with its heavily clawed talons and massive beak. Adults are seven feet tall and strong enough to take down a horse. They lay sand-colored eggs in dips on the ground and may attack their own young if hungry enough.
