Natural Attributes

The Physical Attributes of Lunar Exalted are prone to change from time to time, as could only be expected of shapeshifters. Because the maximum number of dice Lunars can add through Charms is equal to the relevant Attribute, having different Attributes in different shapes makes the matter cloudy.

Shapes that reduce a character's Attributes do not decrease maximum dice added through Charms. Shapes that increase a character's Attributes do not increase that maximum, either. Increases in Attributes from a false shape count toward this dice maximum, but are not themselves limited by this value.

Example: Seven Devils Clever has a natural Strength of 3. When she changes into an omen dog (Strength 5), she can gain only one bonus die before she reaches her maximum increase from Charms and can no longer purchase bonus successes with the Second Excellency. If she changed into a large bear (Strength 7), she could not add any dice through Charms but would still benefit from having a Strength more than twice her natural value.

True forms break the rule. When a true form's Strength, Stamina or Appearance are greater than the human true form's, the Attributes do not count toward the maximum number of dice from Charms and are considered the character's "true" Attributes for the purposes of determining those limits. True forms that have fewer dots in an Attribute do not decrease a character's dice limits. A Lunar can still only learn Charms when her human true form meets the Attribute minimums, and having a lower Attribute in a spirit shape does not disqualify her from using Charms that her animal Attributes suggest she cannot learn.
